Teachings from my Herb Garden

Teachings from my Herb Garden

Today I'm talking about how you move through life. I recently posted a poll on my social platforms asking, "Do you adjust to circumstances without losing a sense of yourself?". 67% or two-thirds of you said, "Sometimes."  And 33% or a 1/3 of you said, "Yes."

I found these results fascinating! And the more I thought about them, the more curious I became. So in this episode, I'll share what I unearthed from my herb garden as I mindfully and playfully explored these outcomes.

Hey, Friends!

So in this episode, I'll share what I unearthed as I mindfully and playfully explored these outcomes.

So here we go...

Rest and Reflect

Take a moment to answer this question. Do you adjust to circumstances without losing a sense of yourself? Really. Do you adapt to circumstances without losing yourself?

When I reflect, my logical mind sees you, me, us as adaptable beings by nature. We naturally adjust to circumstances when needed. So it makes sense why the majority responded as "sometimes". But wait. Do you adapt without losing yourself? Whoa. That's a different thing. So then I thought, wow, a third of you know how to stand in your knowing. And you do this regardless of the circumstances. That's remarkable!

That's when my heart's intelligence revved up. My heart reminds me that I do both at the same exact time. So when I lose my ego and sense of identity, I'm a being of love. And sometimes, I need to do this to be in alignment with my essence. And, I'm also a love being that stands up for love. So, when I'm in alignment with love, there are times I do not bend to the situation or circumstances.

I have to laugh at myself and the mindful chatter and banter. But then, I checked on my herb garden and saw a whole new perspective that moved me to hit 'record' and share this with you.

Teachings from My Herb Garden

I invite you to create space for this to orbit before deciding if or how it lands for you.

So for context, I decided to start an herb garden this year inside. That way, no critters or birds could feast on my herbs. I have four large glass jars filled with soil. I planted seeds and placed the jars on the window sill to get the sun. It's been several weeks now, and allow me to paint a picture of what I see today.

  • The basil is multiplying. The leaves are bundled together and hearty as ever. They're eagerly growing beyond the jar and competing for space.
  • The parsley is tall and slender. The seedlings delicately peek over the jar and reach for the sun. The evenly spaced stems have vibrant leaves that canopy their skinny stems.
  • The sage is small and mighty. The tiny seedling grows slowly yet somehow intentionally. The single seedling seems perfectly content.
  • The mint is non-existent right now. It appears the seeds did not sprout. So I have a fourth jar of moist, fertile dirt ready for the mint if/when it sprouts.

Now that you have that image - here's what grabbed me as I related this image with the question, "Do you adjust to circumstances without losing a sense of yourself?"

Let's say you also believe we come from Source, Light, Creator, God, whichever name you use. So when you agreed to move from a light form into the physical human body (or a plant body if you think of my herb garden) on this Earthly plane, you started as a microcell.

You relied on the external resources of our mother's womb to evolve. In the case of these herbs, it was the water I provided and the sun and dirt from Mother Nature. And when you left your mother's uterus and entered this world, you continued to rely on external support to live. And for these tiny seedlings, they continue to rely on the water and sun to grow and evolve. You (and these plants) intuitively learned to adjust to circumstances without losing a sense of yourself.

Let me say that one again. You (and these herb plants) learned to adjust to circumstances without losing a sense of yourself. I'll unpack this for you to absorb fully.

  • The plants in my herb garden grow within and beyond the limitations of the glass jar. You also grow in contained parental structures and under pre-defined societal or even ancestral circumstances. You eventually extend beyond these confines when you have the space and awareness.
  • Like my herb garden, you navigate life and its happenings in various ways. Some of us thrive - whether delicate parsley or hearty basil. Some struggle to survive like my sage. And some light beings change their mind and choose to pass on this transformation and remain a stardust light like my mint.
  • The herbs in my humble garden hold their essence while they mature and evolve by altering and re-shaping. They adapt to the constructs until they're ready to grow beyond them. And they continue to hold their flavor, nutrients, and healing properties. So do you. Regardless of your circumstances, you mature and evolve by altering and re-shaping. You adapt to the constructs until you're ready to grow beyond them. And then your essence is truly seen.

Wrap Up

  1. So if you're still with me, remember you travel this transformational journey along your own path - just like each of these herbs in their confined jar. They're transforming in their unique way on their own time.

You may move through life fast like my basil or move slowly and intentionally like my sage. You may travel in clusters. Or you may travel independently. You may travel at ease with little direction. Or your travels may be treacherous and windy. And then there's the way you travel. In your essence. With your gifts.

Takeaways

The single, juiciest takeaway is to honor your ability to adapt to the constructs of life until you're ready to grow beyond them. And when you do, your essence will be the beacon we need.
